Brian Kopp's 1-70 Alliance Leveling Guide

I wouldn't go on a road trip to the other end of the country without buying a decent map first. I started out as Horde, and eventually got myself the information I needed to play that side well. It was only natural that when I decided to see how the other half lives, and roll an Alliance character, I also wanted to shorten the learning curve, and get the best leveling road map I could find, from the start.

Brian Kopp is a professional gamer, and has been playing World of Warcraft since the day it was released. The hard work he's put into this guide really shows through, and the result is what I consider to be the best guide around for leveling an Alliance character.

Below is a small excerpt from the guide. Click on the image for a larger picture.

Hellfire Peninsula 60-61

I just wanted to give you a sample of what the guide looks like to better review it. You can actually see a much longer excerpt of the guide on Brian's own page by clicking here.

Brian Kopp's 1-70 Alliance Leveling Guide is, for the Alliance, what Joana's Horde Leveling Guide is for the Horde. Much in the same fashion, it gives you an exact path to follow from 1-70 and tells you when you should....

  • Accept quests.
  • Do quests.
  • Wait to do them because a quest you'll receive later will take you into the same area.
  • Turn quests in because you'll be running past the quest giver.
  • Get a flight path.
  • Make an inn your new home.
  • Etc.
The Alliance guide's lack of detailed maps for each sequence of events worried me at first. However, I was pleasantly surprised in that following along wasn't a problem at all. Brian gives you coordinates for absolutely everything, and the directions he gives are very helpful as well. "Go across the road from the Inn. Go NE. Go to the left house," all leading you directly to where you need to be.

Aside form the usual leveling route that you would expect from this guide, Brian also includes notes on some quests just to make things more fun. On page 17 for "Deeprun Rat Roundup" he advises that you could just skip the quest and keep a flute you get as a quest item because it can really piss people off if you play it non-stop around Iron Forge Bank. On page 19 he tells you to stick around after turning in "Ammo For Rumbleshot" because the scene that plays out is a lot of fun to watch. I took his advice on that, and I can vouch for the entertainment factor of watching dwarves mock each other while having a shooting competition. I haven't yet tried pissing people off at the bank though.

Outland

The Dark Portal

The portion of Brian Kopp's 1-70 Alliance Leveling Guide that takes you beyond the Dark Portal is just as detailed and polished as the sections before it. You wouldn't know by reading it that The Buring Crusade had just recently come out, and that this entire section of the guide was brand new. It hands you the exact route to take through the quests in Outland for fastest leveling, and all quests are already linked to thottbot. This guide gets extra points from me because of Brian's commitment to it. He seems to be constantly working to update and improve whatever he can.

Conclusion

I found this guide to be very effective. It was easy to follow, and I was usually right on track with his estimates of how close you should be to the next level and how much more XP it would take to get there. It also accomplished something that very few guides manage to do, and even fewer manage to do well-- Brian successfully kept things lighthearted, created his guide to be fun to play along with, and made leveling less of a chore.

Alliance has less quests than Horde does, so things do take a bit longer. You should be prepared in advance for a little bit of grinding along the way. This guide is by necessity, 10-15% grinding. I hardly noticed the parts I had to kill my way through, as they are spread out nicely, with a healthy dose of questing in-between.

The average player should be able to get from 1 to 70 in just about 10 days /played time with this guide. I can highly recommend it as a good investment for better gaming. As far as Alliance guides go, I haven't found any that compare. If you'd like more information about Brian Kopp's 1-70 Alliance Leveling Guide, please click here.
