About Me
|
Hello...
Thank you for your interest in reading a bit about me.
I've enjoyed video games ever since I was a child, when my parents
bought me my first home system for Christmas. It was a ColecoVision,
and I know I just dated myself by admitting it. The console was updated
over the years. A Nintendo. Then a Playstation. But nothing hooked me
faster than when I got my first computer and started playing online
games.
It began with Ultima Online, a game that I still have fond memories of.
I've had alter egos in several other games along the way. But since
early 2005, when I saw the store shelves lined with pictures of dwarves
and night elves, I've been in World of Warcraft.
I had a rocky start with the game. There were hundreds, maybe thousands
of quests to choose from. Some were easy enough, but others had me lost
and criss-crossing the map for hours. Eventually, I wound up just
giving up and grinding mobs. That does the job all right, but after a
while, the words "mind-numbing boredom" hardly even begin to describe
this technique. I'd log in, spend a frustrating night trudging along,
and log out wondering why I was choosing to spend my free time
at
a second job. And a non-paying one at that! After almost a year of
this, I had my first Level 60 character. (Yes, it really did take that
long. I got so sick of grinding that I just couldn't stand to do it
very often and wound up fooling around in-game more than anything else.)
I'd finally made it. I had a 60, but I didn't have any gold and my gear
was laughable. Green, Level 37 shoulders. Enough said. I knew I had to
be doing something very wrong. I'd played long enough, but never taken
the time to really learn how to play. There
were people who
seemed to do everything easier. They could get to 60 in a week. They
had enough gold for an Epic Mount. Their gear was amazing. They knew
something that I didn't. When I realized that, it wasn't long before
I decided to find out what it was.
It's my theory that if you're going to spend a significant amount of
your life in an online world, you might as well get everything that you
can out of it. So, I went in search of all the information I could find
about how to play World of Warcraft. I found a lot of free information
online. I also found out that most times you get what you pay for. And
I was happy to spend a little bit of money if it would save me
countless hours in-game.
I've spent both money and time
reading dozens of guides,
then testing them out. I've put what I found here, so that you
won't have to. I've seen the good, the bad, and everything in-between.
The best guides that I've found will be reviewed here.
I've come a long way from having a broke, barely-sixty after a year's
hard work. I now know what powergamers know, and so I can
duplicate what they do. The best information makes for the best gaming.
The right tools can make all the difference. It has for me.
